Common Core Overview

The 2014-2015 school year marks the beginning of the mandatory implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).  Common Core Standards offer a practical way to prepare students to face the challenges of an ever-changing world- by learning step-by-step the real-world skills they will need for college and career.  These rigorous standards indicate what all students at each grade level must learn and are common to most states in our country.

To ensure that all students are learning the necessary skills at each grade level, students in grades third and up will take the SMARTER Balanced Assessments Consortium (SBAC) assessments in the state of California. Because these assessments are computarized, it is important that students practice with computer use and typing (please look on line as there is a great variety of games).  During the 2013-2014 school year, students starting at third grade will take "field exams" in language arts and math, but there will not be any reporting on the results.  The reports about these assessments' results will begin with the assessment data of the 2014-2015 school year.

Please read below and find the links to more information about CCSS.
